1/2 stick butter
1/3-1/2 c sugar (go with less if you use sweet apples)
1-2 tsp cinnamon
1 pack of crescent rolls
4-8 oz Sprite depending on how much extra "sauce" you want (or Mountain Dew if you want more of a kick)
3-4 apples depending on how many slices you want in each dumpling, Granny Smith work best as the tartness balances the sweet ingredients
You can adjust the amount of the ingredients to suit your tastes and needs.
Unroll the crescent rolls and divide into individual triangles
Slice apples into 8 or 16 pieces. The original recipe called for 8, but we did 16 so they would cook through faster. I guess it depends on how well done you want the apples. We like them really soft.
Place 1/3 to 1/2 of an apple at the large end of the crescent roll and roll toward the small end.
Place dumplings in an 8x8 pan. You can double the recipe and use a 9x13 pan.
Melt the butter and add the cinnamon and sugar. Pour over the dumplings.
Pour the soda over the dumplings.
Bake at 350F for 25-30 minutes or under the dumplings are brown and the apples tender.
Go outside and do something active to wear off energy and calories while you wait!
I bought a green basketball on Black Friday. Can you see it in the pictures?
Or do an active inside game. I bought Twister Skip It for the kids to share.
Ours dumplings have dark brown spots in some places because I got carried away with the cinnamon.
The kids love to make these and they are very easy. There's not much clean up either so what more could you ask for?
